About
Welcome to the Ethos!
Ethos is the blog of Practical Ethics, a website committed to the well-being of people, animals and nature.
The subject matter of Ethos ranges across the landscape of animal, environmental, global, aesthetic, religious and political ethics. We create content that is reflective, incisive, and inspiring. And while we may at times speak with a critical voice, we do so with all due respect to those with whom we disagree.
Alongside our mutual commitment to the well-being of people, animals and nature, the columnist of Ethos share a practical approach to ethics. Contrary to what many of us learned through religious or secular education, ethics is neither a rigid set of rules nor axiomatic principles to be applied in every circumstance.
Ethics is really about ‘how we ought to live’. It is about aligning our actions with our values. Ethics helps reveal the moral issues at stake in a situation and provides guidance about how we should think and behave in such circumstances. At its best, ethics envisions how we can thrive in a more than human world.
We hope you enjoy your visit to Ethos.
Cheers, Bill Lynn
